दरअसल सरकार सभी मंत्रालयों और विभागों में पांच साल से रिक्त पड़े पदों को खत्म करने पर विचार कर रही है। केंद्र सरकार ने इस संबंध में सभी मंत्रालयों और विभागों को विस्तृत रिपोर्ट देने का निर्देश दिया है। 

एक कार्यालय ज्ञापन में वित्त मंत्रालय ने कहा कि उसने सभी मंत्रालयों तथा विभागों से पांच साल से खाली पड़े पदों को समाप्त करने के लिए कार्रवाई रिपोर्ट देने को कहा है। कुछ विभागों व मंत्रालयों ने जवाब दिया लेकिन कुछ ने व्यापक रिपोर्ट देने की बजाए महज जरूरी सूचना उपलब्ध करा दी है।

पांच साल या उससे अधिक समय से खाली पद होंगे समाप्त

16 जनवरी 2018 को भेजे कार्यालय ज्ञापन  के अनुसार, 'सभी मंत्रालयों  विभागों के वित्तीय सलाहकारों तथा संयुक्त सचिवों से अनुरोध है कि वे मंत्रालयों या संबंधित विभागों उन पदों को चिह्नित करें जो पांच साल से अधिक समय से खाली हैं।

इन पदों को समाप्त करने के लिए एक व्यापक रिपोर्ट दें। शुरुआती अनुमान के अनुसार केंद्र सरकार में कई हजार पद पांच साल या अधिक समय से खाली पड़े हैं।
